What if 485 was not filed but have an approved 140? Economy is taking big hits on the all the consulting firms even the big ones.I know this because I work for one and I was told budget spending on IT is going to be really tight moving forward for another couple of years espcially in financial sector.
Its going to be tough for everyone. Service industry is one such industry. try to avoid FT jobs in wall street.

bumping up the thread since this is the most crtical thing for us to achieve at this time so that we can put more resources at work in the coming months. As everyone could see on this thread, only few members have signed up for recurring contributions. We sent emails to all 8000+ members and the emails are still bouncing. Members have put fake email addresses. Despite repeated requests members have not updated their profile. In future when we send out updates by email or phone, such members will not get any updates too.
Since yesterday more than 2000 members have visited IV site and read this thread. We did not even get 1/100th of members signing up for this and contributing as little as $20.
Is this your commitment to the cause?

There is no point in arguing with each other just to see this bill in a manner to exclude each one of us. EAD is work authorization even when it is not a visa. The intent of the bill will matter. The clear intent is to not allow hiring of non-citizens by companies engaged in mass layoff, which could include EADs. What's the point of arguing if someone gets an RFE for employment letter? It's not relevant.
What should/can we all do to prevent this from passing? What does IV core want us to do?

I have same understanding - from friends, who got greencards.
There is no need to let USCIS know about changing job after 180 days of 485 filing. U should have offer / empl letter from the employer when your priority date becomes current.
Job title can be different but job duties must be similar.
Salary difference is ok but it should not be less than what is mentioned in labor certification.
In addition to this couple of my close friends got GC recently and they never notify USCIs about new job(AC 21).

Guys,
I know ROW country may not like this thread, but look at EB-3 India or China, put yourself in our shoes and than you may realize how unfair this country is. In this unprecedented financial turmoil, I feel there are very remote chances for CIR or any package which increase immigration etc would pass, I am taking this initiative to gather as many people I can and go to washington. Again this is not an IV effort. If you are with me , you can spare some time or few days in Washington, please PM me. our sole agenda is bring a 2 line bill to remove country quota...
Didn't we have these discussions over and over before? and the admins telling us to stop because IV goals are set and will not change?
If you just want to argue and waste time, lookup previous threads discussing this and you'll have enough reading material for weeks to come.

A friend of mine (from India) got his GC approval notice on 6/3. Here are the details:
LC PD - April 12 2003.
I-485 RD - June, 07, ND - July 16th 2007.
Filing Center - NSC
Received RFE 5/14/08.
Submitted reply 5/30. USCIS ack 5/31. Soft update again on 6/02.
6/03 received email about card production ordered.
Congrats to all those lucky souls.

Even if all 5000 IV members tell the core group to lobby USCIS to allow 485 filing with visa number unavailability, the answer is going to be the same - that is a request to USCIS to break the law, hence IV will not waste any time on it.

This is not just contained in the US. Yes sub prime mortgage mess was concentrated in the US. credit crunch is affecting globally. This is unprecedented in recent years. Analyst opinions can be thrown out the window. There is big psychology to play. Are you willing to trust where u have ur money or not.? Thats the bottomline question at all levels...banks, bonds, stocks, commodities, options..country reserves etc.
Fed & treasury (also other similar global regulators - I know of Russia & India) are also pumping money into the system to prevent a total meltdown.
Liquifying of assets will happen sooner rather than later. Cash is King, Queen, Rook, ...pawn etc. But what is this cash? is this currency note that is getting devalued by the minute (global currency devaluation is going on). Or is this some commodity like Gold, oil? Whats gonna happen to gold prices? Oil prices are down in the condition that people consume less....global recession. Confidence in the fundamental economic system needs to happen for things to pick up. IMO that will happen only when the whole system is purged of such unregulated manipulation of paper money. Its gonna be back to basics - macro economic lesson for the whole world. price = where supply & demand curve meet.
As long as other global economies that rely & be dependent on the US economy still have faith in the US treasury...it may still be ok...but who knows when China is gonna start dumping US investments & adding gold to their reserves at a faster pace...at that time...more bets are off.
Another specific comment about someone mentioning socializing loss....to an extent thats true...but it wasnt like the majority of the US people didnt contribute to this mess...they did when they kept borrowing unending into the paper equity of their home value. As for the few who judiciously saved & lived within their means...I really hope that the mess is contained enough to not wipe out their savings.

It is my feeling that "Illegals>5 years" should not be preferred over "legals<5 years".
really? so you mean illegals are not humans? Or just because you are not in the category, you think only you deserve to live a "respectable" "decent" life, and others should wait in line until you are satisfied. That way of looking at things is exactly the way Citizens look at green cards, people will green card look at non-green holders, people with H1/L1 look at illegals. And that behavior or way of looking at others can described in one phrase - "I'm better than you." And when rules are changed, and we can no longer subscribe t that "false" notion of "I'm better than you.", you think there is something wrong with the bill.
What is wrong with the bill that gives everything that you want, and in addition to it, gives that "illegal alien" what he deserves, not on the grounds of a degree, which is merely a piece of paper, but on the grounds of how humans ought to treat other humans? This bill gives everything that legal skilled community wants, but idiots could not stop beating down on something being given to someone else. That's why the degree(S) that we have is nothing more than garbage, because even after acquiring these degrees, we have not acquired the KNOWLEDGE of how to treat others.

Thanks for the information. I believe I have to wait for another month to get any updates from the Sep visa bulletin or wait till same time next year since my PD is Mar-06.
